The Method:
This blog is an extension of a system designed by an engineer in Japan by the name of Kenji Ohta. In 2007, Ohta published his redesigned version of David Allen's famous GTD or "Getting Things Done" method. Ohta took the key parts of Allen's system and adapted them for use with a notepad and sortable 'pockets'. You can read about the method by visiting the original blog here:
The blog featured downloadable PDFs of the various parts of the paper-based system. Those links have since died but are now stored in a Facebook group that is designed to discuss the methodology. You can find the files from Ohta's blog by joining the group here:

Ohta's blog is the original and all of his work was released to the public via a Creative Commons license. The specifics of the license and use of his designs are outlined in the license notes. This license applies to this blog as well.
So why the "R" in GTD? Well, Ohta's design used a Rhodia notepad. Specifically, the #11 pad that can be purchased in bulk from Amazon. As you read about the system, this will all make sense. That is why Ohta named his redesign of Allen's system "GTD+R"
So what is this blog for? It's for those who use the system or at least want to try it out. No one system is for everyone. But if you give this system a try, you might be surprised. I've used it for several years and find it to be quite helpful in managing several inputs in the various work I do each day. Once I worked my way through the initial setup, the system is easily managed each day by reviewing tasks and incorporating the new ones I add throughout each day. If you've tried GTD in some form, this makes sense. If not, download Ohta's 'field guide' from the Facebook site and review it.
My posts here will be tips that I will share from using the system and ways I've made it work for me. You might come up with some great ideas also and I'll be happy to share them here.
For now, this is the start. If you want to try it, follow these steps:
- Review Ohta's original blog.
- Join the Facebook group and download the files
- Watch the videos Ohta tags on his blog
- Set up the system
- Share your thoughts in the Facebook group and watch this blog for my posts on ideas for getting the most from your GTD+R system.
